Gareth Thomas MP From Harrow, For Harrow
Gareth’s Plan for Wealdstone
Following the recent boundary review, the whole Wealdstone area now falls into the Harrow West constituency. Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of engaging with local Police, Councillors, Churches, Temples, Mosques, Traders, and residents to help understand the community’s concerns better.

Below is my Five-Point Plan for Wealdstone:
- More police covering Wealdstone during the day and evening
The police are working tirelessly to address critical issues in Wealdstone, including gang activity and Class A drug use along the high street. Despite their dedication, their efforts are hampered by a lack of coordination with Harrow Council, particularly in enforcing the borough-wide Public Space Protection Order (PSPO).
To strengthen these initiatives, I am campaigning for additional police resources to provide consistent coverage during both the day and evening. I have also written to Harrow Council to highlight key hotspots requiring immediate attention for CCTV installation and better coordination between council enforcement officers and the police sergeant.
Your input is vital to making our community safer. If you have any local intelligence or concerns, please share them with the Wealdstone policing team at Wealdstonesouth.snt@met.police.uk. For emergencies, always call 999.
- Investment in Byron Park to put it on course for a Green Flag

Byron Park is a valuable asset for Wealdstone residents but has been overlooked for too long. While other parks in Harrow have achieved the prestigious Green Flag status, Byron Park remains neglected.
I will bring together council officers, local councillors, and community park users to develop a plan to improve the park’s facilities, enhance its maintenance, and ensure it meets the standards required for Green Flag accreditation. This investment will not only restore pride in our local green spaces but also provide a safe, welcoming environment for families and visitors.
- Additional CCTV, lighting and street cleaning

Wealdstone’s inadequate CCTV coverage, poor lighting, and insufficient street cleaning contribute to safety and anti-social behaviour issues. I am advocating for more CCTV, improved lighting on the high street, and increased cleaning resources. Having joined the Harrow Litter Pickers on their annual, month-long clean-ups of Wealdstone, it’s clear that additional support is needed. These measures will deter crime, support policing, and make residents feel safer, especially in the evenings.
4. Refurbishment of Harrow Leisure Centre
Harrow Leisure Centre is in urgent need of refurbishment to bring it up to modern standards. Upgrading the facilities will improve access for residents, enhance the quality of services offered, and attract more visitors to the area.
I will campaign for increased investment in the leisure centre, working with Harrow Council and local stakeholders to ensure this vital resource continues to serve our community effectively.
5. Pressing the Council to build more affordable housing for Harrow residents – Too often, new developments consist solely of flats that are snapped up by landlords looking to charge the highest rents. We need genuinely affordable homes and, particularly council housing, that local residents can buy and rent – not just investment properties.
I will be hosting public meetings with the police, councillors, religious organisations, and charities to discuss plans and address ongoing issues in Wealdstone. Sign-up below to join my next coffee morning:
